How to file a VAT return in Belgium with Intervat

In Belgium you file a periodic VAT return (monthly or quarterly) through Intervat, the FPS Finance portal. Eurobillr prepares the figures from your real invoices and expenses so you review rather than re-key.

1. Make sure the period is complete

Check that every sales invoice and purchase/expense for the period is recorded, with the correct VAT rate and mode. Reverse-charge and intra-community lines must carry the customer's valid VAT number.

2. Open the VAT return

Go to VAT return. Eurobillr aggregates output VAT (on sales) and input VAT (on purchases) and pre-fills the grid boxes for the period.

3. Review the boxes

Compare the totals to your expectations. Common things to check:

  • Reverse-charge sales appear without VAT and are listed in the right grid.
  • Intra-community supplies are reported and will also appear on the recapitulative listing.
  • Deductible input VAT excludes any non-deductible portion (for example part of certain car costs).

4. Export and submit on Intervat

Download the Intervat XML from Eurobillr and upload it on the Intervat portal, or copy the box values into the online form. Submit before the deadline (the 20th of the month following the period for most filers).

The intra-community sales listing is generated the same way — export it from Eurobillr and submit it alongside the return when required.
