A genuinely useful free Peppol plan should:

□ RECEIVE supplier invoices (the mandates are two-way)
□ Validate mandatory fields before sending

The catches to read for
- "Free" = PDF only. Emailing a PDF is not Peppol. Confirm structured send.
- Send but not receive. Inbound is where free tools cut corners; you still
must accept suppliers' Peppol invoices.
- A hard document cap. Some cap is fair on a free plan — just read the number,
and check it's not so low it's unusable.
- Peppol behind the paywall. Some tools give you a free invoicer but lock the
Peppol send behind the top tier.
- Watermarks or disabled emailing on the client-facing PDF.

A fair model: the free plan is genuinely compliant (real send/receive, validation, credit notes) with a monthly volume cap; paid plans lift the cap and add extras (OCR, multi-user, advanced reporting). That way "free" means "starts compliant", not "starts crippled".
