Your PEPPOL ID in Belgium: What It Is and How to Get One

Every Belgian company registered on the PEPPOL network has a unique PEPPOL ID — a digital address that identifies you on the network and allows other companies and governments to send you electronic invoices. Since January 1, 2026, having a PEPPOL ID is mandatory for all VAT-registered Belgian businesses.

What Is a PEPPOL ID?

A PEPPOL ID (also called a PEPPOL Participant Identifier) is a unique identifier that locates your company on the PEPPOL network — similar to how an email address locates you on the internet, but for electronic invoices.

In Belgium, your PEPPOL ID is based on your KBO/BCE enterprise number and follows this format:

0088:0123456789

  • 0088 — the scheme identifier for Belgian enterprise numbers
  • 0123456789 — your 10-digit KBO/BCE enterprise number

So if your KBO number is 0123.456.789, your PEPPOL ID is 0088:0123456789 (without dots).

How to Get Your PEPPOL ID

You don't apply for a PEPPOL ID separately — it's automatically assigned based on your KBO number when you register with a certified PEPPOL Access Point. With Eurobillr:

  1. Create a free account at eurobillr.com
  2. Enter your KBO/BCE number in your company profile
  3. Eurobillr registers your PEPPOL ID automatically with the OpenPEPPOL network
  4. You receive confirmation — usually within minutes

No paperwork, no technical setup, no certificates to manage.

How to Find Your Client's PEPPOL ID

To send a PEPPOL invoice to a client, you need their PEPPOL ID. There are three ways to find it:

  • Ask them directly — any registered company can provide their PEPPOL ID. It's their KBO number formatted as 0088:XXXXXXXXXX
  • Look it up via KBO number — Eurobillr automatically searches the PEPPOL directory when you enter a client's KBO number
  • PEPPOL directory search — the official PEPPOL participant lookup is available at peppol.eu

What If My Client Doesn't Have a PEPPOL ID Yet?

If your client is not yet registered on PEPPOL, you have two options:

  • Send a traditional invoice — Eurobillr supports both PEPPOL and email invoicing from the same dashboard during the transition period
  • Let them know they must register — since January 1, 2026, all VAT-registered Belgian companies are legally required to be able to receive PEPPOL invoices

Share Your PEPPOL ID With Clients

Once you have your PEPPOL ID, share it everywhere so clients and suppliers can find and invoice you:

  • Add it to your email signature
  • Include it on your website contact or invoicing page
  • Add it to your quotes and proposals
  • Put it on your business card
